Did you know?
Kopi Luwak is the worlds most expensive coffee, retailing at around $600/pound for farmed and up to $3000/pound for wild.
The reason it is so expensive is because the Asian Palm Civet eats the coffee cherry and after the digestive process the coffee beans come out whole. They are then cleaned, dried roasted and brewed to produce what some believe is the finest tasting coffee in the world.
I love coffee, but not sure I would be game to try it.

It's a common misconception that you cannot refreeze meat once it has been thawed and this is not true. As long as the meat has been thawed at temperatures of 4 degrees Celsius or below, it is safe to refreeze. The major downside is that lots of water is lost and therefore the meat can become quite dry when eventually cooked.

Ginger is often used to suppress nausea. It is a method that has been used in China for centuries and recently adopted into Western society.
To make ginger tea, grate some ginger into hot water, brew for 6 minutes, strain and enjoy with a squeeze of lemon. Or, if like me you really like ginger just eat the pickled stuff straight from the jar!

Ever wondered where the term 'Baker's Dozen' comes from?
It is said to date back to 13th century England, when King Henry III introduced one of the earliest English statutes: the Assize of Bread and Ale. It basically said that there would be sever punishments for any Bakers found to be selling underweight or inferior bread. Punishments included having one's hand chopped off with an axe.
So bakers began making 13 loaves for every 12 ordered to ensure they always had one more in case of burnt, lost or small loaves.

Good tips, good tricks
Have you ever gone to buy an avocado and all you can find are rock hard, under-ripe avocados that look like they won't be ripe for a week? This happens to me all the time and I usually want to use the avocado within a day or two.
There is a trick to make avocado's ripen faster. I can't guarantee how quickly it will happen, however, if you place the avocado in a brown paper bag with a banana, apple or tomato, the avocado will ripen faster. True story. Just remember to store the bag at room temperature out of direct sunlight.

Tomatoes should be stored over 12 degrees to ensure their texture and flavours remain at a maximum. Storing tomatoes in the refrigerator will lead to an inferior tomato.
I usually store my tomatoes in a kitchen cupboard as the cool, dark space will keep tomatoes at their peek.
