According to Australian Food Standards, a meat pie must contain at least 25% meat. However, a study conducted in 2006 showed that out of the 26 pies tested, not one of them met the minimum requirement. The average amount of meat per pie was only 17%!
And notice that it is a 'meat' pie as opposed to a beef pie? That's because the meat can come from any buffalo, camel, cattle, deer, goat, hare, pig, poultry, rabbit or sheep. Still want to grab a pie from the servo on your way home?
To sum up, make your pie at home so you know what is in it! For a delicious beef pie, try my Works Pie.
